A Framework for Rapid Prototyping of Multimodal Interaction Concepts
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ubiquitous systems provide users with various possibilities of interacting with applications and components using different modalities and devices. To offer the most appropriate mode of interaction in a given context, various types of sensors are combined to create interactive applications. Thus, the need for integrated development and evaluation of suitable interaction concepts for ubiquitous systems increases. Creation of prototypes for interactions is a complex and time consuming part of iterative software engineering processes, currently not well supported by tools as prototypes are considered to be short-living software artifacts. In this paper, we introduce the framework Connect that enables rapid prototyping of interaction concepts with a focus on software engineering aspects. The framework allows the definition and modification of event-to-action mappings for arbitrary interaction devices and applications. By applying Connect, model-based prototypes of multimodal interaction concepts involving multiple devices can be created, evaluated and refined during the entire engineering process. A Framework for Rapid Multimodal Application Design
The aim of the work described in this paper is to extend the EPFL dialogue platform with multimodal capabilities. Based on our experience with the EPFL Rapid Dialogue Prototyping Methodology (RDPM), we formulate precise design principles that provide the necessary frame to use the RDPM to rapidly create an efficient multimodal interface for a given application. We analyze the consequences of th...
متن کاملA Lightweight Approach for Experimenting with Tangible Interaction Metaphors
INTRODUCTION Interaction techniques for Augmented Reality user interfaces (UIs) differ considerably from well explored 2D UIs, because these include new input and output devices and new interaction metaphors such as tangible interaction. For experimenting with new devices and metaphors we propose a flexible and lightweight UI framework that supports rapid prototyping of multimodal and collabora...
متن کاملRapid Multimodal Dialogue Design: Application in a Multimodal Meeting Retrieval and Browsing System
In this paper we present an extension of the EPFL’s Rapid Dialogue Prototyping Methodology to include multimodality, and show how it can be applied in the design of a multimodal application, the Archivus system. We begin with an overview of the standard speechonly rapid dialogue prototyping methodology, followed by a discussion of the extensions implemented to include multimodal capabilities. W...
متن کاملPrototyping Multimodal Interfaces with the SMUIML Modeling Language
In this position paper, we present an approach geared toward rapid prototyping of multimodal interfaces with SMUIML (Synchronized Multimodal User Interfaces Markup Language) and HephaisTK toolkit. The goal of SMUIML and HephaisTK is to offer developers with: on one side, a language allowing clear description of human-machine multimodal dialog and control over the way multiple input modalities h...
متن کاملmTalk - A Multimodal Browser for Mobile Services
The MTALKmultimodal browser is a tool which enables rapid prototyping for research and development of mobile multimodal interfaces combining natural modalities such as speech, touch, and gesture. MTALKintegrates a broad range of open standards for authoring graphical and spoken user interfaces and is supported by a cloud-based multimodal processing architecture. In this paper, we describe MTALK...
